SBI Credit Cards were launched in October 1998. It was a joint venture of State Bank of India and GE Capital. Headquartered in Gurgaon, Haryana and incorporated in the name of SBI Cards and Payment Services Private Limited (SBICPSL).

The idea of SBI cards was to give Indian Consumers access to value added payment services of international standards. They achieved a consumer base of 1 Lakh within 10 months of launch. By the year 2002, 1 Mn cards were issued, and crossed 2 Mn credit cards consumer base by 2005.

At present, with over 4 Mn credit card consumers, they are the second largest credit card issuing company in India.

With a vintage of 18 years, they have achieved number of milestones. New variants of credit cards have been introduced, the credit card consumer base has been growing year on year and have various awards on performance, quality and service under their belt.
